Little Italy Days Bocce Tournament

Thursday evening. Steve’s first Guest blog.

Steve photographed Franco Harris* at the Little Italy Days Bocce tournament in the neighborhood of Bloomfield. * (Former Steeler. Known for the “immaculate Reception “ play and a member of four Steelers Super Bowl Championship teams) Mr. Harris threw out the first ball of the Bocce tournament.

In 2017 Steve photographed me with Mr.Harris at the same event.

My Sister’s Magical Trick

This photo was taken in NYC 2011 but in the mid fifties this teeny elephant assisted my sister in making me stop crying. She’d be in charge (babysitting) and I’d be sad my parents went out. She would make this elephant appear and then she’d make it fly away and disappear. I’m not sure how many times she repeated this act but I remember believing it was magic.

Don’t know who crocheted this little elephant

Our Walks Have to be Longer

My friend and I went walking the other morning. There’s is no way our steps were sufficient to counteract the calories -given she brought over a box of Oliver’s Donuts. Jen likes to support her local businesses. Remember her last pastries, I posted ?

I photographed the donuts in two lights, sunshine and shade. Their Signature donut is the Huckleberry. The middle ones are summer seasonal Lemon Lavender. She took the rest to her daughter’s work.

A rich chocolate ganache (Death by Chocolate) and a vanilla with sprinkles in the back. Fancy! I ate half of a Huckleberry (we split it) and a spoonful of the ganache. Death by Chocolate is not kidding! I was happy with my choices. Coffee was a perfect pairing

“ Our sour cream cake donuts have a dense, moist interior with a crispy outside. We always use Pittsburgh-region grown & milled organic flour. We make our donuts fresh throughout the day.”

One Hardy Hibiscus

There’s a new plant, a Hardy Hibiscus, in my front garden and it blossomed. A single bloom. Very exciting to see the vibrant pink unfold.

Then I walked up to the park and saw what’s in the second photo!

Maybe next year.

Still Life of a Friend’s Harvest

Today I got a special delivery of tomatoes, cucumber and basil from a friend’s garden. She delivered the produce to my front porch.

Steve and I enjoyed the tomatoes at supper.

Summer tastes delicious
