A police car. The Bomb Squad. A trolley. About 8 classic cars. Catch some candy and Mardi Gras beads. The Boy Scouts marched, then a Bagpipe and Drum group, the Morningside Cheerleaders.
We had a lot of fun watching the parade in the Morningside neighborhood, not too far from home.
We went to the festival and the man in the information booth was a colleague from the first school I taught in the city -1989. Small world. We had a lot of fun and the grandkids loved the spin art and crafts in the Kid Zone. They loved jumping the bouncy house.
On the way home we drove to Giant Eagle and got ice cream and cones to eat at home. Fresh berries. Summer!
August first, just after sunset. West Mifflin, PA. Kennywood Amusement Park. Just driving by. Got out of the van and waited for the cars filled with riders to come into the frame.
Oakland section of Pittsburgh. Looked like Europe to me. I was surprised to see it so bright as I guess I haven’t driven this route at night lately.
After the poetry reading at Pitt, I was driving by last Thursday night and noticed the illuminated facade so drove around the block and photographed the cathedral at night.
The building history is available here. The date of the building on their website is 1906.
Meet Annie the owner of Annie Oakley’s Kitchen and her sister-in-law Christa, who is a pie apprentice. They were sporting company shirts and aprons and selling delicious looking pies at the South Side Farmer’s Market on Carson Street.
I loved that they had a box of forks so you could dig right in after purchase.
Annie the pie maker on the left and Christa (sister-in-law) the pie apprentice on the right.
And Mom, Bryna, is the ceramicist who created the pie/cake stands for the display. She also makes ceramic pie plates for sale.
What a fun booth they had set up in the Farmer’s Market on Carson Street. They are at the Whitehall Farmer’s Market on Mondays.
I sampled the apple butter which she sells on ETSY for just $4 a jar.
I bought two small strawberry rhubarb pies for $5 which was a sweet deal.
Meet Donna. She owns the Spirit Ready-Ride Motorcycle Boutique in Millvale PA. The location is a repurposed church which used to be an antique store. I saw it when I left the Millvale Post Office across the street and went in and introduced myself and Donna graciously consented to my blogging the boutique. They don’t sell motorcycles but everything you need to go with your Harley is available and then some. Repairs is a big part of the business. The back part of the place is the service area.
Going to return to Millvale soon and add a couple of photos to complete the story. Turns out I missed two important people.
Here is the comment I received from a follower of Ready-Ride :
Hi Ruth, loved the blog on Spirit Ready Ride but was wanting to see a picture of Matt he is the main mechanic at shop and does a great job and had a big following also. Plus the other owner of the business Honey Sanford would have loved to see her on the blog also. Maybe you could stop back down or grab their pictures and write something on them also because that shop works as a team and they have a great respect and love for each other that’s why it works. And yes, that is a Harley-Davidson Black Leather Couch and Easy Chair in the slideshow.
Meet Richard (from Rhodesia) an ironworker who repairs Harleys and rides.
It’s been up on this porch roof for at least a couple of days.
I was driving to the zoo from school on Monday.
The story I heard from the guy out in front of the house next door?
The guy who lives there does demolition and probably got it from some home he was tearing down. It is the season of demolition around the city as you know.
A photographer has no choice but to pull to the curb and shoot the scene. Remember the days of women’s stoles with fox heads dangling and tiny paws with claws? Beady eyes? Ugh. Wonder if they take him in if it rains?
The last book we read in 2nd grade Intervention Group was the Fantastic Mr. Foxby Roald Dahl.
It was a beautiful night, capturing the sunlight as the sun went down. And it ended up being an exciting game with a win by the Pirates. A few fireworks. Perfect weather. They close the Roberto Clemente Bridge for pedestrians to walk across to the Park. Reggie Howze is the saxophonist standing on the bridge.
