Have Bike Will Travel Guest Blog

I received an email from long time friend Shuey. You’ve seen his contributions to the blog before . You might remember his most viewed post of the Barred Owl ? from 2012. Here’s what he sent .

Ruth,
Picked up a used motorcycle today in Tucson Arizona. It’s the same make and model as the first one I had, 2007 Honda ST 1300.

Left Tucson today on road to VanHorn, Texas. About three hours before getting to VanHorn, while going through El Paso, I looked left to change lanes and was stunned at seeing this rainbow. Managed to pull over safely and snapped this pic, it was beautiful. About 10 miles before arriving at VanHorn, the sun was setting, and I managed to get a snap of this part of it. Hope your day went well. Mine is great.
Shuey

Thanks Shuey for sharing your stunning photographs.

The Gift of a Nostepinne

Thank you Patty. I’m going to have to practice winding yarn with this cool vintage tool you sent.

The Gift of Baking

“In French, Sablé means Sandy (just like the classic shortcrust pastry “Pâte Sablée“) and Breton refers to Bretagne region. So they literally mean Sandy Cookies from Brittany! They are often just called “sablés cookies” in France.” Click link for recipe

Merci , Roberta.

They were delicious.

Twentieth Reunion in 1990

“When time and fortune cast their spell

And youth’s bright years are o’er.

Our memories then shall fondly dwell

on scenes that are no more.

For busy, carefree high school days

And friendships tried and true

For these we lift our songs of praise

Dear Morristown to you.

Alma Mater Morristown High School New Jersey

Not sure how one can remember these words but there you have it. Still in my memory.

Snagged from a Morristown High School post, this is one of two pics as everyone couldn’t fit in a single frame Class of 1970 had 551 students

I’m seated in the second row on the left next to my good BFF, who willingly accompanied me to our twentieth reunion. What a good friend. We were to attend our fiftieth in summer of 2020…….

Vintage 1985 Throwback Thursday Guest Blog

My friend Joanne writes from Florida …..

Back in the day we went to a lot of military formal events which were always a great chance to dress up and feel elegant. I only kept a few outfits from those days, but one was a beaded chiffon two piece that I bought in 1985 and wore many times over the years. I always loved that outfit. I had an invitation to a local formal military dinner (they call it a Dining Out) — my friend was out of town so she asked if I would be her husband’s date. I remembered the outfit was in a box so I dug it out. Steamed it. Extended the elastic waistband to fit my expanded waistline. Removed the huge shoulder pads. And wore it 38 years later …..Lots of compliments and I felt pretty special in it.

Same dress and earrings in 1991…military holiday ball.

Free Take Me

Donna and I had just pulled out of the parking lot after our breakfast. I said to her “I wonder if we will see any furniture discards today.” A few years ago, (2015)we saw a pink chair on the sidewalk when we were together at the Dormont Eat ‘n Park.

We couldn’t believe it when there was a couch in the way back to her house last Friday. Of course, I pulled over and photographed it. it’s not like I go out and look for these abandoned furniture finds. They just show up!

Felted Soap

My friend Joanne gave me this colorful bar of felted soap that came on the wooden soap stand.

“Benefits of felted soap Felting the soap helps with longevity, lather and exfoliation. Felted soap dries out faster after each use, preventing the natural glycerin from dissolving as quickly. This makes the bar of soap last longer for you to enjoy. The felting also helps with the grip on the soap.”

Directions to make your own felted soap are on Twig and Tale Blog.
