Yesterday, March 19th, was St.Joseph Day. My sister bought two special pastries at Pasticerria Rocco on Bleecker Street. Sunday morning I was sipping coffee and knitting a sock and Steve said, “there’s a package for you.”
A surprise delivery.
I opened it up and there was an unexpected gift of a Willow Tree Angel of Friendship with a lovely message. ❤️ I have her where I can see her when I’m “working” in my former dining room, now transformed into a workshop space.

There’s an eagle statue standing guard by the parking lot at the East Liberty Post Office parking lot. He looks like he was once on a building. I tried to research his story but came up empty.

Here is the delight of the day- (Stef!)
A monumental sculpture by J Seward Johnson has been at PPG Place for “about four days”, the guard said.
But don’t worry. The giant dancers will be in place until October.
Dancing at Bougival (painted in 1883 by Pierre A. Renoir ) is in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Note: August 2020. This post inspired after seeing Pittsburgh Artist Jack Puglisi ‘s Pointillist work “The Dance” from his MASTERWORKS series – remembered I had photographed this sculpture in 2014.
On the University of Pittsburgh campus you can see this sculpture of Dr. Thomas E. Starzl, “father of organ transplantation”, seated on an iron memorial bench.
Someone added the mask! You can visit the sculpture on Pitt’s campus, by the Cathedral of Learning lawn.
Dr. Starzl’s bronze likeness was created by sculptor Susan Wagner and unveiled in June 2018 . The statue, sporting a mask during the COVID 19 Pandemic, was photographed by a friend of a friend and asks to remain anonymous.

You now how I like to photograph the Bill Mazeroski statue down by PNC Park and the Allegheny River. The statue captures the moment he ran into home plate , winning the 1960 World Series for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Tonight the moon was out. Steve and I were on our way home from the National Kidney Gala at Heinz Field. BTW the photo I donated went for a nice amount in the Silent Auction so that felt satisfying. Such a good organization. 80% of donations goes directly to the patients and their needs.The number of people with kidney disease is staggering. Attendees were incredibly generous especially when in a 10 minutes blitz they raised about $25,000.

Today was the day to get moving. The skies threatened rain so it would have been so easy to cancel and stay home. I even emailed to ask” is the walk happening rain or shine?” Turns out they are committed and walk in the rain.
I decided I’d better go walk after telling everyone I was going to take a walk through this historic Allegheny Cemetery sponsored and led by Fitness Instructor Nancy of the Stephen Foster Community (senior) Center.
Now there were two speed walkers who left the other four of us in the dust. Experienced walkers for sure. How I made it 3.5 miles is amazing. It’s happening again next Tuesday, too. Hmmmmmm

There were three Fox dens you can see on this little hillside. The seasoned walkers have seen their heads peeking out of the holes.

A poignant sculpture at a child’s grave
Seen last week when I was on Ohio, I was walking to the swim meet from the parking garage. And I did experienced exactly what the article quoted below says….”a fun surprise to stumble upon”
“The Garden of Constants at the Ohio State University is a fun surprise to stumble upon. The massive, colorful numbers bring a whimsical air to the lawn outside the engineering building.
