Up a Tree

How fortunate my neighbors scheduled their trees to be trimmed,

The branches were growing into the side of their house.

After Steve moved the cars out of the garage and onto the street, I thought to myself- “hmmmm- People at Work, right in my driveway!” Perfect for an interesting photo shoot. Andrew agreed to allow me to photograph him working. You should see those spikes that help him climb up the tree. Takes a lot of skill and care. You have to know what you are doing. Ascend is the word of the week, showing upward movement.

Pedestrians on Cell Phones in NYC

Downright dangerous.

From my archives March 2013

I remember taking these photos as my sister and I walked down Fifth Avenue. Photographed with a Canon 5D. I shot 188 images in about 45 minutes, Here are a few. Too many I know but it was hard to choose.

Pedestrians on cell phones can get distracted and crossing the street while staring at your screen is risky. These pedestrians were easy to photograph cause they weren’t paying attention to me. Well, maybe one or two noticed.

You could write a phone conversation dialogue for the images.

Pittsburgh River Rescue

Fortunately it’s a timed challenge practice drill and not a real rescue situation on the Ohio River yesterday. These men and women do important and difficult work.

I’d taken two grandkids to the Carnegie Science Center and we had just toured the submarine docked behind the Center.

Watching the diver dive into the river while tethered to the rope as it unfurled, was something to see. Another diver waited on deck, ready to help if diver one got into trouble.

You have to be a paramedic first before any further training can begin. The instructor was patient and answered all Jack’s questions.

Henry the Airedale Took a Photo with my iPhone

Saturday morning I photographed the pancakes and put the iPhone on the table. Maura said, “what’s that camera noise?” Henry nuzzled the open camera app and captured the red tablecloth. Maybe a smudge of butter on it that drew him to the circle at the bottom of the screen.

Shades of Rothko? Definitely abstract.

And here he is taking up most of the bed while I’m visiting for the weekend.

Meet the Man Who Made Copies of the Film Quart Jar Poet

Meet Dino Pandolfo who graciously consented to be part of my People at Work Series. He has a full recording studio and can create multiple copies of DVDs and CDs(see below) right here in Ingram a West End neighborhood in Pittsburgh.

The Quart Jar Poet: Dorothy Holley is a film I made in 2005. Dorothy was a good friend to me- an encourager. Dorothy Holley-Poet, Friend

Dino created the copies to be used as a fundraiser for Madwomen in the Attic-he was a pleasure to work with and they look wonderful. He even carted the boxes to my car.
