What a Difference a Year Makes

Happy Seventh Birthday Jack (John Patrick).

March 21st is your big day.  Thought you’d like to see the faces your old grandma captured this past year!

Last year you looked like this.

And now you are getting your permanent front teeth after losing those baby ones!

The shot below was taken one week before your birthday at the Columbus Car Show.

Anticipating the Moment

I don’t like to take a ton of shots, hoping to get a find one of the action.  I try to anticipate when the moment will be optimum to shoot.

Here is one of a skateboarder by the Game Pieces public art in Philadelphia.

Miniature Dog and Boy Amid Jelly Beans

Amid, Amidst, AmongWriting Tips Blog describes the difference of these three words.

You decide if I made the right choice- amid.  Amidst is outdated but I chose that first.  Then I wondered if I chose correctly.

The more I thought about the choice, the more confused I became.  But we are among friends.

Photographer Christopher Boffoli has the best use of the miniatures I’ve seen.  He’s created a  book Big Appetites.

Creative and humorous, his work cheers me.  Makes me laugh.

Car and Train

Oh, I’ve seen car and I’ve seen train…….

Columbus, Ohio- Saturday afternoon.  Shot from the second floor of the parking garage on our way to the car show.d

A sliver of a city scene. A bit of sunlight.  Shapes and lines.  A car driving down the middle of the road.

I went and looked at all my blog posts tagged transportation  and I ‘ve shot a lot of cars, trains, buses, motorcycles, taxis and trucks.

Transpsortation in ColumbusPick a lane.  Is this car over the double line or what? Maybe they are looking at the train and not noticing or they are planning to pass the cars lined up, waiting to get into the garage.

Photographing the Family at the Columbus International Auto Show

Photographing four kids together can be tricky and exasperating, trying to get everyone looking pleasant simultaneously.

The first photo is one solution. Take them from behind!

Seems easier with the distraction and props of shiny new cars at the Columbus Car Show.  Pretty good cooperation. Especially when they weren’t really thinking about me and my camera!   mustangListening to the finer points of this Mustang by Ford

First American to Score 500 Goals and 1000 Points in Hockey

Joe Mullen.  Hockey legend.

Hockey Hall of Fame 2000.

The first American to score 500 goals and also to score 1000 points in hockey (which happened at the Civic Arena as a Pittsburgh Penguin)

When I was with Steve at his conference in Philadelphia, there was a very excited young man on the elevator who had just gotten an autographed puck from Joe Mullen, former  Pittsburgh Penguin (now assistant coach for the Philadelphia Flyers.

After I got to the hotel room I thought I’m going down to the bar and ask Mr. Mullen for an autographed puck for Bobbijo’s friend Julie Ann who is running marathons and raising funds for Cystic Fibrosis research.  Team Kaelyn’s Kure has an invitation for the Cystic Fibrosis Fundraiser April 18th and there will be an auction.

Mr. Mullen was gracious and signed the puck you see in the photograph below.  I’m getting it to Kaelyn’s mom, Julie Ann  so they can add it to the Hockey items at the fundraiser.

Thank you for your generosity, Mr. Mullen.

By the way. Steve and his Dr. friend,  shook your hand at the old Pittsburgh airport, before security measures.  You got off the bus and the fans met the team, cheering your Stanley Cup 1991 win!!!

Washing the Salt Off the Car

You head to the garage and see your car another shade, coated with road salt, winter splash and grime. Crystals and slosh.

There was salt shortage this year so the secondary roads didn’t always get treated. You’d never know there was a shortage to look at the car.

You try to not rub up against it.  On a dry, warm day you make your way to the gas station car wash.

While you’re sitting in the driver’s seat, you watch the car wash water stream, soap, bubble, spray.

You see drops, drips, rivulets, sheets of water in patterns across the windshield.

Capture it with your phone.

You head to the grocery store.

When you come out you can’t find your car because the color of paint is showing again, without the salty haze. Unrecognizable.  Clean.

Light Patterns on Bloomfield Bricks

On the way home from school the light on this wall caught my eye so I pulled over to the curb.
I looked across the street and tried to determine what was making the reflection but I couldn’t discern what caused it.

This was the view opposite the light patterns.
