3 Cousins Meet New Baby Cousin

Cousins, explained

Yesterday three of my grandchildren, Michael, Jack and Maura met their new baby cousin Joseph.

Their mothers are first cousins as their mothers are sisters so their offspring  share a great grandparent!

Michael, Maura and Jack are first cousins once removed to baby Joseph’s mother but are second cousins to her son Joseph.

Right?

It can be confusing -even looking at the chart

The Early 80’s -my counted cross stitch phase

Saturday morning, I hung the ersatz garland up in the front hallway and positioned the ornaments so the fronts were visible. The little embroidered dates on them surprised me. Some of my friends were serious counted cross stitchers (Aida!!) I was more of a dabbler. Focusing on smocking and knitting when time allowed although Laura wasn’t born until ’83 so that explains why there wasn’t a mouse stocking  with her name on it.

Annual Lebkuchen Baking

For the Recipe click Aunt Rhea’s Lebkuchen Recipe.  She’ll celebrate her birthday Monday.

I mailed it to Aunt Rhea’s son, my cousin Chris.

I hope it tastes familiar. Love.

The Return of the Quilted Mug Rug

Five years ago I received unexpected mail from quilter Colleen. Today I found it in my cloth napkin basket and pulled it out to set my hot lemonade and honey mug on top. Feeling festive! Added a couple of Nurnberger Lebkuchen. A hot drink helps when the temperature drops to single digits.

Thanks Colleen.
