On the Hunt for Joy Challenge: Week 10 – Put Your Collections on Display

Cee’s Photography Blog provides good information on the many and varied photo challenges that are out there in the blogging world. Cee inspires many with her beautiful photographs.  You might have read one of Cee’s encouraging comments and she always manages to click the like button. too.  She is one of the most prolific bloggers I follow.

Yes, I know I missed the first nine weeks of the Hunt for Joy Challenge but week ten collections jumped out at me.

I am all for hunting for joy, too.

Not a Beatrix Potter rabbit but she’s knitting!

Here are some of my rabbits and also some Beatrix Potter Figurines.  They’ve been with me for decades.  I don’t add to the collection.  They sit on a shelf of the lawyer’s bookcase with the glass front down but to take a quick photo of them tonight I lifted the glass.  Dusting them might have been a good idea.

Have a collection you want to display? Email me a photo and I will add it to the post.

I love to hear how your collection got started. How you curate it. Do friends add to your collections?

Anticipation

Waiting. Patiently.

My granddaughter Anna made the beautiful flower covered ceramic art in her high school ceramics class. She gave it to me at Christmas. I put a glass jar inside to hold the stems in water.

The daffodils are from Ireland, but bought them at Trader Joe’s Monday afternoon.  I’m sure many will have opened up by morning.

Mazeroski in Moonlight After the Gala

You now how I like to photograph the Bill Mazeroski statue down by PNC Park and the Allegheny River. The statue captures the moment he ran into home plate , winning the 1960 World Series for the Pittsburgh Pirates.

My dad was at that game.

Tonight the moon was out. Steve and I were on our way home from the National Kidney Gala at Heinz Field.  BTW the photo I donated went for a nice amount in the Silent Auction so that felt satisfying. Such a good organization. 80% of donations goes directly to the patients and their needs. The number of people with kidney disease is staggering. Attendees were incredibly generous especially when in a 10 minutes blitz they raised about $25,000.

Steve took this picture of me with Mill Firelight on the Mon.

Not Spring Yet

Yesterday I was remarking how I’d heard birds and there was sunlight on my living room floor  and it was staying light so much longer.

There’s a muddy feel in the air, impending Spring. A scent. A feel. Signs of the changing season – oops. The supposed rain shower today wasn’t rain at all but blustery icy sleety snow, blowing around wildly and the thermometer said NO WAY but yes, it was wintry white and howling and my optimism the winter coming to a close, vanished. Just like that!

Spring’s coming though   It always does. I know it. You wish it would hurry.

Cloudy cold with blowing sleety snow.

Chocolate, Raspberry,Vanilla Sauce and Cream

What a perfect mouthful. Steve brought home a fancy dessert from his dinner out. I was headed up to bed. I said I’ll have one mouthful. I put it on a spoon and poured a bit of the accompanying sauce in a little dish.  Oh my!

What a mistake to make one teaspoonful.  I could have eaten the entire dessert but look forward to repeating the experience tomorrow. Not sure how early in the day would be okay.

I did not lick the bowl but thought about doing so.

Cleaning Out a Drawer- Throwback Thursday

This afternoon I was digging around in a desk drawer, looking to clean out some papers and cards. The ongoing downsizing effort.

I found this fifty year old Daily Record Newspaper clipping sandwiched in a manila folder along with an old MAD magazine that sold for a quarter.

Allegheny Cemetery Walk

Today was  the day to get moving. The skies threatened rain so it would have been so easy to cancel and stay home. I even emailed to ask” is the walk happening rain or shine?”  Turns out they are committed and walk in the rain.

I decided I’d better go walk after telling everyone I was going to take a walk through this historic Allegheny Cemetery sponsored and led by Fitness Instructor Nancy of the Stephen Foster Community (senior) Center.

Now there were two speed walkers who left the other four of us in the dust. Experienced walkers for sure.  How I made it 3.5 miles is amazing. It’s happening again next Tuesday, too. Hmmmmmm

The Speed walkers like pinpoints as they pulled away from the pack.

There were three Fox dens you can see on this little hillside. The seasoned walkers have seen their heads peeking out of the holes.

My second unicyclist sighting in a week.

Crystal Necklace Cleaning

When I wore this 3 strand crystal necklace to my son’s wedding in 2002, my Aunt Rhea sat right behind me. She leaned forward over the back of the pew and said, ”Oh you’re wearing your Grandmother’s necklace.” Now I’d always thought of it as my mother’s necklace when it came to me in 2000 when my mother passed.

Today I found it in my dresser and thought I’d like to clean the crystals and wear it this coming Saturday to the National Kidney Gala fundraiser to which Steve and I are invited.  Spiff up a plain dress for sure.

I wish I knew more about the necklace but there is no one to ask.

A search found a simple method of a few drops of dish soap and some alcohol in lukewarm water, a cool rinse and then gently dry with a handkerchief so no bits of fiber from a towel.
