Hamburger Stand for Sale
Everything is hazy due to wildfires in the mountains. Stehekin area. Smoke across the landscape in Eastern Washington. Reardan WA, population 600 in 2000 census. On the way from the Spokane Airport with my sister, driving a rental to our brother’s in Okanogan. Long day of travel. Wheat fields on either side of the 2 lane road. Grain elevators in the background. It’s almost a 3 hour drive from the airport to his place near the Columbia River.

In the Baby Doll Aisle
What were we thinking? We got out of the giant toy store with the item we had on our list but had to add this plastic doll to the cart while we shopped. No real expression of desire until the baby doll aisle— WHOA! Maura became totally animated, pointing, babbling turned to squealing . Loudly. Her mom said we weren’t buying it, so we parked the doll at the front when we checked out. It really didn’t have a nice face! Maura (20 months) didn’t care what it looked like- she wanted them ALL! When she got into the van and was reunited with her doll from home, she was happy. I bought two bottles to feed her doll, the kind you tip and the liquid disappears.

Pies on a Rack Headed into Schorr’s Bakery, West View PA
It was a really hot day Friday. Standing at the PNC MAC machine, I looked to the left. A rack of pies, an open truck, Margi the owner of old fashioned, classic, timeless Schorr Bakery – “Be Sure At Schorr’s” it says at the top of the card. She was wheeling the rack into the bakery with the pies. No website or link to send you to yet. 433 Perry Highway 412-931-0653. Schorr’s.

The Woodwinds- Waiting for Planes to Return Home (2 views)
Confratute at UCONN completed and we went to catch our plane to Cleveland, in route to Pittsburgh. At the Bradley Airport, Hartford CT, a circle of students (who had just completed ARIA International Summer Academy at Mt. Holyoke college) caught my ear, first! Then my eye. Clearly skilled! I asked if I could photograph them for the blog even though our plane was starting to board. A lovely unexpected performance. Sitting in airports can be tedious but not today. Thinking about how live music enhances emotion. Touches us. Turns out I had just missed their rendition of Star Wars. Bummer. They were all headed different directions. Teachers would check the comment box, “uses time wisely”.

Summer Porch Scene

Suzanne’s garden lush greens. Variegated. Giant Oak Leaf Hydrangeas blooming. Lamb’s Ear and Lavender border the steps. Ripening blueberries in the back. Seeing the latest projects and sharing details about family visits. Catching up with a good friend. What a lovely way to spend a summer afternoon.
Central Park Sailboats and Unauthorized Craft
From the archives. Boats with a motor not allowed. Took this when visiting my sister last Spring. Reminds me of Stuart Little. It’s relaxing to watch the toy sailboats and the people who pilot them, the rental guy who retrieves them with a line. The motorized, remote control naval ship was zipping around between the peaceful sailboats.

Evening Light on a White Shirt and Green Rail
You notice the light on the object and how it’s reflected off the object, too. This is the photo just before yesterday’s post- “real time” and yet the approach to the top, ready to drop, looked like a stronger moment. I put myself on assignment, studying the movement, the mood and the composition- all in a few blinks. I liked this one for the light.

Headed for the Big Drop
After photographing family in West Mifflin Sunday afternoon, I drove a couple blocks to the Free Parking lot at Kennywood. Sat in the car with the 70-200 lens and watched a few loads of Phantom’s Revenge Riders speed by at different angles. It would be a long two minutes and fifteen seconds for me. People love the thrill of roller coaster rides. How about Rob and Bradley in Illinois going from park to park on tour? Will fill you in on their stats when I receive them. A new coaster is going to be on the site of the Turnpike Ride (my speed) and the numbers they tout are zero to fifty in three seconds, 90 degree drop. Any mention of G force and I am opting out! WOW.
