Weekly Photo Challenge: The World Through Your Eyes

The challenge of curves spoke to me immediately.

This week’s challenge the world through your eyes, did not.

But then I looked at the photo of my sister in NYC from the other night, the reflection of Freedom Tower (behind the buildings in the foreground) in her sunglasses as we sat along the Hudson River at Battery Park.  A literal interpretation.  It seems I set it up AFTER reading  the challenge today.

Thai Cuisine on Liberty Ave at Pearl Street in Bloomfield

When I got home from school, Steve asked me if I wanted to go eat at the Thai Cuisine Restaurant in Bloomfield. Bloomfield is considered the Italian section of the city and I have blogged the Italian Festival and scenes from the Bloomfield Bridge.

On Liberty Ave at Pearl Street, across from the  Bloomfield Laundromat, there’s delicious Thai food in this wonderfully Italian neighborhood.

I was so tired when Steve suggested going out to eat, I thought about lying down and taking a rest instead.

Fortunately, I decided to take him up on his offer and am I ever glad I did.  He’d brought home take-out from this restaurant before but had never dined in. He told me how nice they were to him and always remembered his name.

It’s BYOB. They have a vegetarian menu, too.  The service -friendly and nice, the food fresh and perfectly prepared. Very tasty. The decor and ambience clean and comfortable.  Love the cloth napkins.

We enjoyed our dinner tremendously.

We ordered two dishes to share and the brown rice. There are curries and appetizers, soups and salads and desserts.  Spicy Basil Fried Rice seems to be a favorite in the reviews.  The YELP reviews = overall four out of five stars.  The Urbanspoon seemed quite favorable and highly recommended by the City Paper Critic, too

Our server rolled all the silverware in wonderful cloth napkins- stacked and ready to go

And Steve took a shortcut down the alley to get us home.  Love being a passenger so I can photograph with the good old iPhone camera.  Did not take my regular camera to dinner.

BUCKEYES Reflection- Guest Blog

My son Mark sent this to me  from his phone today.  He was with Anna at an Invitational Swim Meet, Ohio State University – The Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion to be exact.   The text he had written to me with the photo was:

Photo Challenge Reflection.

No matter that the Weekly Photo Challenge for Reflection was the beginning of December.  I thought it was fun to receive the photo he took with the accompanying words.  He saw that and thought of the Photo Challenge Reflection. And he thought of the blog.  It was nice to receive and so I’m sharing it you.

Thanks Mark. Continue reading

Anna’s Self Portrait at the Swim Meet

You know how Anna (9) likes to borrow her mom’s iPhone and take photos?

She was the photographer of the pick up truck full of legs post in case you missed it.

So I said I would put her photo on the blog but I needed her to explain how she took the photo and I would add that information on the post.

See the second photo.  She drew the little symbol- to turn the camera so it faces inward?   I photographed her iPhone sketch.

That was how she explained it. Oh yes, she said told me she had mirror goggles.  I like how she thinks about composing a photograph.

She enjoyed being guest blogger so much.  I think we need to get her a camera!

A Vapor Trail, the Moon and Thursday’s Sunrise in the High School Windows

Tuesday’s dawn was beautiful.  Two days later, the view on the way into school included the  moon and the vapor trail of a jet. A gift to start the day!  The shot on this day has a bit more of the scene too- the parking lot, the sidewalk, the corner of the school.view at school

Dawn’s Early Light Caught in High School Windows

As I entered the building I looked back.
Saw the reflection of dawn in the high school windows. Lifted my phone up and shot the scene.

South Side Window Scene

I took this on the way to my car after a football game this fall.

It reminded me of taking city  walks in Philadelphia where my parents lived.

When we headed south on Ninth Street, we’d see ceramic window decorations and many were religious.

It was as if the residents dressed their windows for others to see and enjoy.

Blessings for passersby.  Theadora of  People places and bling blog  from Paris wrote and identified the holy statue as the Infant Jesus of Prague

Maybe I’ll return and see what’s in this window for Christmas time.

Stink Bug at the Gas Station Trying to Hitch a Ride

I was filling up the tank and a stink bug started crawling up the car window.  Caught his climb with the iPhone and the reflection of the parked car and building make for an interesting perspective. At least to me.  He is definitely a bit soft on the focus but I still liked the composition. Plus he looks about the size of the other car! BIG!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Merge

This week’s challenge was something to think about on my trip from Pittsburgh to Columbus Friday afternoon.  Sorting through images I had in the archives. (in my mind, obviously)   Nothing jumped out.  And then-

an opportunity presented itself, right in front of me. Standstill traffic.  On Route 70 West, Friday afternoon.

A 3 1/2 hour trip took almost SIX hours to drive today due to congestion from road work and merging to a single lane and perhaps a bad accident that was cleaned up by the time I got to the site.

I saw police and emergency vehicles driving the other direction with lights and sirens.

A truck reflected the sky AND an old fashioned airplane is in the left door panel.  It looks like a bird. The sky seemed to merge with the reflection in the shiny truck.  Nature and machine-made merge.  I waited to merge to the left single lane. Other interpretations of merge are here
