Rolled Ice Cream is Hot on Butler Street

I’ve been away for awhile. My friend B said “let’s go to NatuRoll Creamery –get rolled ice cream in Lawrenceville. There’s always a line” (which is a good sign).

Turns out it didn’t open until three. So we had a delicious lunch at VANDAL first, waiting for three o’clock to roll around.

Kaden took our orders and $. Two Spring Specials -Blueberry Lemon on a Vanilla Base.

Abby made mine.

Then she added them lemon zest

and a slice of lemon

The focus is on Abby. Takes 2-5 minutes to create each fancy finished special.

A Perfect Dessert

You know how I like dessert. It’s a double guest blog today.

Necessity! I purposefully left my cell phone home so I could be present in the moment during a special luncheon Wednesday afternoon.

Steve and I were invited next door for a delicious lunch to welcome our new neighbors to the neighborhood.

Dessert was this stunning and mouthwatering Lemon Tart from the French bakery on Butler Street in Lawrenceville La Gourmandine

The first photo by Madison who said “The simple things in life are the sweetest.”

and then when my slice of the delectable tart on the beautiful blue and white china plate was set in front of me, I definitely needed another photo. (Thank you Joaquin)

No way to adequately describe the simultaneous sweet and tart combination as it glides over your tongue. Perfection!

Steve said, come on let’s go -so I put my book down and layered up in warm clothes and we headed down. Ordered a draft. Settled into a booth and listened to some great musicians take the chill off the almost winter night.

Artist at Work

Meet Janice Schuler. Artist. Today there was an Artist’s Studio Tour in Lawrenceville. Her painting studio is in the basement of this repurposed church and was number one on the tour. I’d met Janice last night at the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts and she invited me to visit her studio during the Studio Tour. There was wine and beer, bottles of water and cheese and crackers and a tray of sweets, too. Other artists studios were open as well but I sat in a comfortable chair in Janice’s studio and watched people come and go as we talked.

Acquiring Art from Art All Night

To say Art All Night in Lawrenceville is a happening, would be an understatement. Over a thousand pieces of art are hung and displayed for 24 hours.

No jury, any medium- just ONE piece per artist. No exceptions.

It takes a ton of volunteers to organize, create and support this community event. Check all the art in, check all the art out. Make sure the artists get back their artwork.

There’s lots of music, comedy, yoga, mosaic making, live art, children’s activities and T-shirts for sale to wear until next year which will be the twentieth year.

Here’s the great part- thousands of people attend the show. This year Steve and I went on the peaceful Sunday morning instead of the wild and crazy and heavily populated Saturday night. An artist friend had taken in my Mill at Night photograph along with his painting. He’d encouraged me to participate again this year.

When I saw the piece below on one of the panels, it spoke to me. I got the contact information off the tag and called the artist right away. This afternoon we met at the bookstore in the Waterfront and check out how she packaged her art.

Thanks Jill. I am thrilled to have your “Corona” in my home.

We exchanged email and contact information and hope to knit together sometime soon.

Tartelette aux Framboises and Dark Chocolate Royal

We made an evening run for me to pick up something at Target. Little plastic containers for soup.

On the way to the parking lot, Steve asked me if I could drive by his work so he could get something he left there.

Someone had brought two delicious French pastries from La Gourmandine Bakery as it turned out.

He brought out the box and opened it in the car and there they were. Two lovely pastries.

When we got home, I cut the raspberry one in half and ate it, intending the other half for him later. Ooops. I ate the other half too. Here is the description on their website
