We’re visiting my sister in the city.

Freedom Tower’s appearance transformed significantly when the rain stopped and the sun came out on the return trip to Manhattan.

Maura, Jack and Michael in the late afternoon.

Took this the Saturday after Thanksgiving when the grandkids and I visited Aunt Mary in NYC. It was a wonderful piece of playground equipment, made in Germany.

Had to consider do I post a photo “peopled or unpeopled”?

Aunt Mary, Michael, Maura and Jack look across the Hudson River to New Jersey. Documenting the Thanksgiving vacation, saving  memories of a childhood experience for reference.

Holiday travel at peak? Not yet.

That will be this coming Wednesday.

But when the trains for Boston were announced (as I stood under the departure boards) I thought I might get run over by the rush of humanity.

Getting to their platform, getting to their train home. Rush rush rush.

Makeshift Thanksgiving Eve Supper on Supermarket Conveyor Belt

Do you ever look at another customers items on the conveyor belt in the grocery store?

Do you make judgements based on their choices?

Today I was watching the weather and accumulated snowfall all day and thinking about my Thanksgiving travel plans.

When I drove out of the school parking lot, it was slush on the roads and a pretty snowy wonderland in the trees.

After school, I went to the Giant Eagle supermarket and procured some semi-Thanksgiving items for supper tonight.

You can’t see the pretty red yams.

I can tell you this, the cranberry, orange, Granny Smith relish was refreshing. We didn’t sample the pie.

It’s just sitting.

If I never eat another Turkey Burger that’ll be just fine.

Don’t look too closely foodies and food bloggers.

Holidays are usually low view days on the blog.  Good thing!

Steve and I ate together and he’ll hold the fort here.   I packed a suitcase with plenty of wool sweaters and socks.

Thinking about all those I love and who love me. Feeling grateful for friends and family.

Thanksgiving ingredients

When I took the car to be inspected on Monday night (due Nov 30th so made it just under the wire)

I saw this sky as I waited in the wind for Steve to pick me up.

Lebkuchen Recipe from Aunt Rhea, (Well actually from her Mother’s Father)

This recipe is from Aunt Rhea’s mother’s (Marie) father, Julius Rickel(, who died in 1933.) That’s all the info I have on the handwritten recipe.  Not much more.

How to bake a Family Favorite recipe that hails from Germany. I copied it down from Aunt Rhea. Sunday before I left Ohio I dropped into the Kroger and bought what I needed

Aunt Rhea married my mother’s brother Robert.

She’s 98 years old today and celebrating, too.

I plan to call her up and ask if there’s anything else to know about this particular recipe.

Love to you.
