Between 44th and 43rd Streets, Lawrenceville. Steve and I were driving back from dinner. Took a different route. Saw this street sign. Took a loop around the block so I could roll down the window and shoot. Love being a passenger. Here is an article about Fractional Street Addresses
Do you think this is a ribbon leaf Japanese maple tree? I’d no idea there were so many varieties. I need to take a leaf identification refresher course.
I helped my friend Debbie make these memorial flowers to honor her father’s memory as they celebrate his life Sunday May 27th.
I invited her to write the accompanying story.
Memorial Day Weekend Guest Post
by Debbie Beozzo
“My dad, Robert Simon Hinkle , was a big supporter of the Veterans Paper Poppies sold on Memorial Day to raise money for Veterans. I never see one that I don’t recall us marching in the West Hazleton, PA Memorial Day parade in the 1960s. Dad with the local Veterans’ group wearing their uniforms, or any part that still fit them, and me with my Girl Scout Troop 244. The parade would conclude in the same cemetery, where this year we will hold of celebration of his life. A December 15 , 2017, car accident and snowstorm on the way to his service, stopped our family from attending. As I prepared for this memorial gathering, I recalled dad’s love of the poppies and decided it might be fitting to distribute flowers made from Dad’s jeans and shirt.”
A good friend passed early Wednesday morning. You always ask if there is anything you can do…..
Cj and her daughter at Thanksgiving a few years ago.
She was a loving mother, a devoted sister, an excellent teacher, a strong woman, a heartfelt writer and a steadfast partner. An advocate for so many students in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Inspiring thousands. A Madwoman writer at Carlow University.
I can picture her signing Go Tell it on the Mountain at a Christmas Choir Concert
Reading her poetry at Poe*Art, touching us with her words.
Playing music to motivate the scores of teachers who became students every summer in The Western Pennsylvania Writing Project at the University of Pittsburgh.
Another friend who taught with her for a couple of years remembers her playing Rocky’s Theme to get the students geared up for testing. The same friend said Cj always made lemonade when life handed her lemons. So true.
Here is another song she’d play for her students and sign with them.
The plea for help with medical expenses is now compounded by the additional need for Funeral/Memorial costs. If you’ve ever received a bill in the mail after someone has passed you’ll understand why I am getting this request out to the world. Cj was always supportive of my blog efforts and an avid follower.
I credit my daughter Laura with the idea of the twist cone for the weekly challenge.
I credit Steve with taking me to the Twisters Ice Cream on Main Street in Bloomfield, a little hole in the wall place with service at the window- only! As he waited in the car, I got out to order.
I credit the woman who made the medium size twist cone for me, who was gracious to hold it while I took an iPhone photo of it along with the logo on her T-shirt. I told her the word of the week was TWISTED.
And I give much credit to the few people who had to be patient to order their cones, splits and shakes, who waited while I took a few extra seconds to take my shot,
Eight years ago I photographed Twisters Ice Cream store at night and blogged it
