Yes, it’s the moon AND fireworks

Yes, it’s the moon AND fireworks at the same time. Columbus Ohio with the family last week for the gigantic fireworks display. We had a nice evening together.

it’s the annual effort to improve my fireworks photography.

And I am celebrating another year with my Fourth of July birthday today.

Moon Weight and a Poppy Seed

Did you know how much the moon weighs? South side- a couple of weeks ago, while waiting at the bagel place, I was thirsty. I’d already had enough coffee so bought a lemonade/tea.

I never knew the lids held facts. Don’t usually but a bottled drink.

I ate a poppyseed bagel. As I read the fact about the moon I saw a single poppyseed next to the lid. I’m not sure how much that single poppyseed weighs but I learned how much the moon weighs. 81 billion tons!

Late Afternoon Walk in the Sun

We took a late afternoon walk in the sun today. Penny was excited to take a walk. Maura found a book in the Little Free Library on the corner.

Charlie wore his ski goggles. He held up his baby to show him the fully visible moon.

We cut down the alley and saw some signs of bulbs sprouting through the earth. Charlie looked back to make sure I was coming, too. I was gawking and shooting a few snaps on the phone, capturing the sun we haven’t seen in such a long time. It was chilly in the shade.

We’ve still got to get through the month of March and it’s been known to snow but I could feel a respite from winter today.

This evening I received this lovely photo on my phone.

It’s the full moon rising over St. George Island, FL from my friend Kristin.

She agreed to be guest blogger for today’s post.  You might have seen her Orchid Cactus Bloom post or the Christmas Day Gators Post .

She sent another shot when it got darker but the mood of this one with the clothesline is my favorite.

Moonlight Commute

Headed to the garage, time for school.

I make tentative choices- try to place my feet

When I unlock the car,  the rear lights show where it’s rough on the

temporary ice rink.

Thaw and melt

makes frozen glass on top of gravel and mud.    I saw the moon.

Down the slick hill to the main road,

I pulled over, waited for cloud cover to move

A couple of grainy cell phone pics,  try to capture the moon, the mood-

then off to work.

A Vapor Trail, the Moon and Thursday’s Sunrise in the High School Windows

Tuesday’s dawn was beautiful.  Two days later, the view on the way into school included the  moon and the vapor trail of a jet. A gift to start the day!  The shot on this day has a bit more of the scene too- the parking lot, the sidewalk, the corner of the school.view at school

3 Sources of Light on the South Side

Streetlights, headlights, moon.  Bedford Square.  A stripe of cloud by the moon. Always practicing my night photography.  Trying to avoid excessive graininess. Enjoying the time off from work to restore.

Seems like another era when I look at this shot.
