East Pike, Norwich Ohio Nativity

You don’t usually see the back of these decorations but we were in the Antique Store parking lot on East Pike in Norwich as we made our way back to Pittsburgh.

Red Still Life in the Kitchen Photographed with Mirrorless Camera

Portable, lightweignt. Able to fit in a small bag instead of a huge one.  Not so bulky.

Interchangeable lenses. A postive review all around.

You don’t always want to lug heavy DSLRs and weighty (but wonderful) glass around your neck.

A phone camera isn’t sufficient as an alternative.

AND there was the bonus of a hefty instant rebate at time of purchase.

I’d been looking and thinking about mirrorless cameras for awhile.

Reading reviews, I thought it would be a Fuji but the SONY a5000 had an affordable 20.1 Megapixel price that seemed fortuitous.

I’m satisfied with the results so far.   Will keep experimenting.

Mom, You Should Knit a Hat to Match Your Glasses

Okay Matthew. Good idea.
Here it is – thanks for the inspiration.

Sure beats my tired brown hat from last year.

And thanks to Molly for the Noro Kuryeon yarn and I used a double strand as the pattern called for bulky yarn.

This is the Handspun Ribbed Hat patternHandspun Ribbed Hat. I knit quite a few of these hats for Christmas with Rowan Undyed Chunky yarn, the color of the breed of sheep. Suffolk and Black Welsh.

(Adjustment– I knit it to 11″ so there is a nice length to fold up and it’s double over the ears ) and I use a size 9 circular needle 16″ length.

Two months in the photo- almost 39 now

You may remember the Dear Photograph ” post two Februarys ago.
My son Mark took this photo in my
living room where the red (faded to
Rose) couch sits.
My dad is holding him when the couch was in my parents’ living room in Philadelphia in 1976.

They are both so happy on this old photo.

Here is the series of  “Dear Photographs” I experimented with a couple of years ago.

1972 Six-Fifty Ticket Stub- Exile on Main Street Tour- Rolling Stones Concert

Another Era.  Captured in music. 1972.

and a memory of a great concert EXILE on Main Street featuring the ROLLING STONES at the no-longer-existent Civic Arena.

The warm up act?  says Stevie Wonder on the link but I thought he said Martha and the Vandellas.

Shirley Temple Still in her Box, Toodles, a Nun Doll. a Yo-Yo Doll and Other Childhood Friends

My friend Barb collects all kinds of dolls, most from her childhood,  There’s a photo of her in one of the pics, holding her doll.  She has a glass and wooden cupboard filled with her collection.  The reflection makes it tricky to get a clean shot,  I  looked up Toodles  and she is definitely a contemporary from our childhood years in the ’50’s.  What do you collect?

Me on Big Screen TV, Sort of

When I parked the car to go to coffee this morning, I saw this huge TV on the sidewalk, waiting for the trash.

(Another title could be Trash Selfie?)

Me on Big Screen TVYes it was really windy.

The inviting scene as I parked the car.

Brand New Today

New.
Brand new today.   I was wondering what to post for this week’s photo challenge.

We went to a delicious brunch at our friends’  home Saturday morning.
I received this unexpected gift- at first I thought it was a whisk broom for clothes – but no, can you guess?

It’s a cake tester!  Perfect for a baker.  A cake baker.  Just need an occasion to bake a cake.
Pull a broom straw and insert in the cake’s center to test the cake’s doneness.  Make sure it comes out clean.

I’m hanging my brand new cake tester on the pot rack right next to the over door as the little verse suggests.

Thanks Rich and Barb for a lovely time and for this unique gift.
