This post started with Steve bringing me a bowl of beanie weanies for Sunday night supper.
I looked at the color of the bowl, the sock I was knitting, and the teal of my new robe from Christmas. ( thank you, V- it is very cozy)
I try to keep the blog IRT for the most part.
The last sock yarn I used was for a Sockhead Hat by Kelly McClure Pattern (thanks for the Chocolate and Cherries yarn,Toni).
Then I thought of all the references I am using to tutor myself to knit socks again. Reading about the knitting is good preparation.
I’d started a pair of socks simultaneously on two circular needles about two years ago. (Thanks for the yarn, Molly) but bought new size one double point needles yesterday to knit them singly.
I used to worry about “SSS- second sock syndrome.” Listened to Alicia and Natalie on a Mastering the Knits Podcast talk about socks and yarn and more socks and felt inspired.
Also, my long time friend, E, brought me a Christmas gift. A book –Knit Socks! –shaped like a sock -by Betsy Lee McCarthy
The two books have exclamation marks in their titles.

Did some research for a Portuguese dessert and this cake came up in two places. Recipe for Orange-Olive Oil Cake.
I went across the Allegheny to Labriola’s and bought a new Zoe Olive Oil as recommended in the recipe. Fresh eggs. And five navel oranges were five dollars at Whole You-Know.
Zested three oranges and squeezed four to get 1 1/2 c of juice.
Used a tube pan as I did not have a light colored bundt pan. Baked it 1 1/4 hours.
Make it at least a day before serving. I did.
Will let you know what the verdict is after Friday night dessert. I usually don’t make a new recipe to share, untested.
Thanks J. I’m home again.
I received your parcel. Lovely!
I love the gift of the blue glass vase and the accompanying book of sketches, watercolors and recipes from Provence.
So cool that you met the author/ artist Mary Ann Miller, too. Travels with a Blue Vase website shows her other books and it would be hard to chose between Paris or the third one of Britain and Ireland. Guess I’ll have to get them both.
I look forward to putting fresh flowers in the blue vase and photographing them.
Are you going to take a trip with the sketchers? Or a class in a local cafe?
Thanks again,
Ruth
Some circles.
All piled up in the produce section.
There were other shapes besides Circle, too.
Do you like yours baked, boiled or mashed? Or sweet ones, instead?
The other day I was reading Say it With a Camera blog. Mike Hardisty’s accomplishment of 52 in 2015 intrigued me. I read about how to participate in the weekly themed challenge. The part that appealed to me is you have to take photographs during the week of the theme- no archived shots. I read the rules of the group and signed on the participate in the 52 in 2016 Challenge and Day 1 of Week 1 is Monday January 4th.
I like the idea of a new goal in photography. Actively working on something different. A challenge.
Week #1 theme is reflection. Today I was watching my grandson Charlie while his mom, Laura, was packing away the Christmas tablecloth and cleaning up the kitchen. She had just polished the electric kettle and I was standing there in her kitchen and thought, reflection.
Cheri Lucas Rowlands presented the Weekly Photo Challenge
Circle “you might consider what this familiar shape represents: the cycle of life and death, infinity, perfection, and more.”
As I pulled down Laura and James’ driveway, I saw the Christmas tree at the curb, ready for pick-up.
Charlie’s first Christmas tree.
He was six months old on Christmas Day.
I put the emergency brake on, got out and saw the blogpost photo for the weekly photo challenge.
Update Monday afternoon : So I went and bought a saw at Loews this morning and cut a slice off the bottom to make an ornament for next year’s tree. Thanks Julia for the idea.
Jack was invited to an birthday party at the ice skating rink. He was so excited. Mark took him.
We came an hour later for “free skate” but I didn’t don skates.
A good photo op for Grandma, who happened to have the real camera, not just the iPhone.
Lots of reflections, not enough light or too much light.
Made adjustments.
On the way home I got to photograph a brightly lit house display as I was in the passenger seat.
