Eleven Years Ago and 2021

This came up in my memory today

Christmas Eve 2021

Throwback Thursday isn’t until tomorrow but when the top pic came up in my Google photos, I didn’t wait to create this post 🙂

A Little Hippopotamus?

The deadliest land mammal, my son told me at Christmas. According to the BBC News post

“Ungainly as it is, the hippopotamus is the world’s deadliest large land mammal, killing an estimated 500 people per year in Africa. Hippos are aggressive creatures, and they have very sharp teeth. And you would not want to get stuck under one; at up to 2,750kg they can crush a human to death.” BBCNews

When the kids were small , we had cute picture books about a Hippo couple-George and Martha. Guess not

Do you see a baby hippo, too?

This is a blue potato that got left behind for the soup. And sprouted.

Looked like a baby hippo to me.

Tuesday I received a Happy New Year email with this note.
Shuey writes:
“It’s been awhile since I’ve seen something in this category that was worth a U-turn and a stop.
I spotted this one while returning on a rainy day from “The Last Ride of the Year” which I go to every year to see some of my long distance riding friends.  I was between rain clouds and the contrasts of light and shadow really caught my eye.  Not in the picture, but off to the right, set much further back from the road, was a nice double-wide trailer. I’m guessing this building was the original family homestead now abandoned with a descendent family still living on the property.  Whether this old house is kept for the memories or it’s just to expensive to tear down . . . who knows.  Definitely worth a stop.   I’ll bet this building could tell a story or two if it could talk.”
Google Street view from 2016 shows a building in much better shape

From three years ago downtown Pittsburgh PA

On the way back to the car, Charlie puts his visitor sticker along with the other Heinz History Center stickers. It’s kind of interesting litter. Not attractive. But it evolved naturally over time. Wonder who put the first one on the pole. Not as bad as the Chewing Gum Wall in Seattle, WA

The Last Package of Lebkuchen

When I got to Laura’s house there were three packages of Lebkuchen by the guest bed. My daughter knows me well. These are from Germany.

Unfortunately, Oscar the dog got one package and ate some (no ill effects even though he got a chocolate covered one)

but he didn’t get my favorite kind.

I just opened it tonight. One a day for six days and then will have to wait until next Christmas

Kind of a soft gingerbread with a blend of spices, nuts and peel, not too sweet.
