David Lujan of Gallery Black Lagoon
People at Work Series.
From the April wedding in Austin, Texas.
David Lujan co-owner(with his wife) & curator of Black Lagoon: art+ yoga and artist. He tended the bar at the wedding celebration and made the little fairy chairs out of the champagne tops. He was sketching a tree house for his daughter, as I remember. I must carry a reporter’s notebook to write down the details.

Fresh Ravioli
iPhone shots at Groceria Italiana this morning.
I’ll go back another time with my camera and maybe capture two more People at Work for my series. Carol and Adrienne (sp?) These women were working hard to make all of these beautiful ravioli in short order. So many choices of fillings.
And yes, I bought a dozen of the fresh ravioli, they boxed them for me right there. I poured sauce over them and baked (covered w foil) for 40 minutes.
A salad on the side and we had a hearty dinner on a day cool enough to fire up the oven. Delicious.
Drying in the freezer before being boxed
Watching the two women prepare the ravioli this morning made me think of Chicago John of Bartolini Kitchens blog and his family stories about how his mother and his dear aunt, Zia, would get up at five to make fresh ravioli for holiday dinners. Click the blue link for his post.
Zucchini, Garlic, Olive Oil
All come together in this recipe-
I love zucchini but this recipe is my favorite. It’s from my next door neighbor in Clarion PA. (C.1980)
Nell Miller called them Poor Man Meatballs.
The key to success is getting as much moisture out as you can -which is a challenge. And I like using the cast iron skillet.
You grate or process about three (not the large seedy kind) zucchini
Tilt the bowl for a time to capture the wet. Drain off. Squeeze as dry as you can.
Add egg, dried Italian bread crumbs or plain with your own seasoning, salt and pepper. Toss with fork -add minced garlic. Mmmmmm can smell them now. Shape like potato pancakes not too big. My gluten-free friend used crushed Rice Chex instead of bread crumbs. Drain on paper towel.
You can eat them plain (my choice) or add to marinara sauce over pasta.

Mrs. Wozniak’s Very Last Day of School
The First Grade at Sacred Heart Elementary School is going to need to fill a very big hole, left by the retirement of Mrs. Wozniak. I had the privilege of going to photograph and document her very last day of teaching First Grade.
Our sons met at this school in 1989 and are best friends still.
I got there before the children came into the classroom and got a tour of her room. Each classroom has a different nationality theme and her classroom is Australia.
All of the students walked to 8:30 mass, the church is next door. Father recognized Mrs. Wozniak before his homily and the cat was let out of the bag that she is retiring as the students did not know this information prior to his announcement. The nice part was that it gave the older students a chance to hug and appreciate her, remembering being in her class and all that they learned from her.
When the class returned to their room, they sat on the carpet listening to The Giving Tree and Mrs.Wozniak showed them the gorgeous ceramic farewell plate (with all their names) that they helped make ( the homeroom mother organized that effort)
Thank you for your dedication and service, Mrs. Wozniak. You will be missed!
